Carrie Ann Inaba and Robb Derringer: It's Over! - The Hollywood Gossip

Carrie Ann Inaba and Robb Derringer have split up just nine months after getting engaged.

A source close to the Dancing with the Stars judge confirmed the sad news to PEOPLE.

Carrie Ann Inaba, Robb Derringer

Rumors have been swirling over the last few days that the relationship is over, and now we have official confirmation.

Derringer proposed to Inaba in December during a romantic moment at the scene of their first date somewhere along the California coast.

It appeared that wedding planning was well underway just last month when Inaba happily revealed some of the details of the event to People.

I’ve thought more about the wedding than the reception,” she began.

“A wedding is sacred. It’s a profound moment in one’s life and we both want to focus more on the ceremony and make sure it represents our love and truth in a very intimate and special way.”

Carrie Ann Inaba and Robb Derringer Kiss

She revealed in the same interview that she and Derringer had a thing for the ocean and felt like it was instrumental to their relationship.

Well, it's not uncommon to feel attached to the place of your first date and engagement, we guess.

“We both have an affinity for the ocean. We had our first date near the ocean, we got engaged near the ocean. The ocean will be a central theme in our wedding,” says Inaba. “And we’re guessing and hoping for a sunset to remember.”

The rumor mill went into overdrive over the weekend when she hosted an event in Hawaii for former Dancing with the Stars star, Kristi Yamaguchi.

Carrie Ann Inaba, Mother In Hawaii

Robb and the engagement ring were nowhere in sight, and the star had her mother with her for moral support. It certainly seemed like the couple was on thin ice.

That was not the first sign that there was trouble in paradise, however.

Carrie Ann shared the below image on Instagram just last week.

The ominous picture reads, “Just when I think I’ve learned the way to live, life changes.”

There has been no official confirmation about what paved the way for the split, but it does sound like it came out of nowhere if the wedding was being discussed just weeks ago.

What do you think about all of this?

Sound off below!

Gossip Was Lil Wayne's Final Warning Shot - Noisey

Day 358: "Gossip" – The Leak, 2007

Lil Wayne lines can be fun, and they can often be brilliant. But the best ones arrive like wake-up calls, punches in the gut that remind us how seriously Wayne takes the stakes of rap, of the competition it implies. Perhaps nobody has ever been as hungry to be the greatest rapper as Lil Wayne. And during no period was that clearer than his run throughout 2006 and 2007, when he seemed motivated by a superhuman desire to annihilate any other contenders for rap's throne. As he rapped at the time, "the only thing on the mind of a shark is 'eat.'"

But not everyone wanted to pay attention—they would, eventually, with Tha Carter III—and so Lil Wayne offered one such head-spinning bursts, on a song called "Gossip": "I feel hip-hop stole me like a bus pass," he raps, calling to mind his stolen youth as a Hot Boy, his decade of toiling to perfect the craft. "And so in your position I, I, I must ask"—at this point, he leaves the question to the sample, of Margie Joseph's "Stop in the Name of Love," which continues the thought—"haven't I been good to you? Tell me, haven't I been sweet to you?" This was the line that inspired A Year of Lil Wayne. It's such a cutting question because it implies even deeper questions. Is Lil Wayne a martyr for hip-hop? Is Lil Wayne's martyrdom what will save hip-hop? Does Lil Wayne as martyred savior of hip-hop become hip-hop Jesus? (On last year's "No Problem" verse he implies as much). Like I said, it's a punch in the gut.

If Lil Wayne is hip-hop's savior, granting it ever-lasting life, we have all of eternity to continue pondering that question, which means there is plenty of space to move onto talking more about "Gossip" itself. After all, that line is just one of at least a dozen combative salvos on there. "You don't have to pick me to win the title fight / but I'ma wear that championship belt so tight," Wayne offers. "A gun is not a math problem, I won't even think / Just leave you dead like the mink under my sink," he suggests. "Gossip" is, true to its stated concept, a moment for Lil Wayne to clear the air, to brush aside other rappers.

"I always loved that sample," the song's producer, Streetrunner, told me earlier this year. "There's like an interlude in the front, and the shit she's talking was so dope to me. And I knew I could make it drop into a hard-ass beat when Wayne started rapping that part right there. [ Ed. note: Reader, he did.] So I thought it'd be dope to have her talk shit and it go into a crazy beat, and then cut back out and let her talk some more shit. You know, let her sing. It was kind of like a little working formula that I had with Wayne."

Wayne was a master of this kind of beat at the time, which is in fact further proof of his competitive instinct. "Gossip" is through-and-through an East Coast beat (the only other rappers as obsessed with this kind of sample-driven, boom-bap stuff at the time were The Diplomats, and Lil Wayne was practically an unofficial member). And the East Coast style was still, despite how decisively Wayne was helping to shift the genre's center south, hip-hop's bar for lyricism. Wayne had always loved that kind of music anyway; naturally he set out to conquer it. A particular tic of his was using samples, like he does here, as a kind of hook to drive the song. So "Gossip" not only set out Wayne's arguments to his competition; it did so on the competition's home turf. East Coast pundits wanted to say hip-hop was dead? Lil Wayne was going to show up to argue that he was singlehandedly keeping it alive, and he would use the exact kind of beat they didn't think was relevant anymore to prove it.

"I never could understand why rappers didn't get it," Streetrunner said of using the concepts of his samples this way, as a framework for the song's theme. "Like I would send these dope-ass beats with these concepts that were just there, like yo, murder it. But like only Wayne would get it. And he would really get it. And when he got it, you see what type of songs he was making off of it. It just all made sense."

Wayne took the prompt to silence the chatter around him fully to heart. He closes the song, "cut the check, nigga, fuck your props / and make it out to Mr. Hip-Hop," adding, "I'm not dead I'm alive." That would seem like a pretty strong rebuke of the mindset, popular in the wake of Nas's 2005 album Hip-Hop Is Dead, that the new sound of hip-hop was leading to the genre's entire decline. After all, how could the genre be falling apart when Lil Wayne was still rapping lines like these:

Don't believe me, don't believe in me
I've graduated from hungry and made it to greedy
My flow is like pasta, take it and eat it
But I'ma need cheese if I'm bakin' a ziti
You niggas want beef? I want a steak and the weed, B
Lost in Amsterdam or Jamaica where weed be

I mean, come on! And then, as proof that he had graduated from hungry and made it to greedy, as proof that everyone else was in his hair "like the fucking po-lice" (get it, lice? But also police?), he debuted the song on a stage where nobody could miss his message. Specifically, he performed it live at the BET Awards. "Gossip" was one of the few songs Wayne had recorded in that 2006-2007 period that he had managed to keep under wraps (a product, Streetrunner said, of the fact that it had been left behind on a hard drive and never exported as an mp3 during the height of the leaks, languishing until around the time Wayne debuted it). And so it landed, accompanied by pyrotechnics, like a bomb. Lil Wayne, performing in front of a screen of himself wearing a shirt that read "I Am Hip-Hop," was electric, explosive, revelatory. In fact, you should watch the performance right now:

"I remember watching the BET Awards, and the camera goes out to the crowd, and you see Wayne onstage ripping it down to this track that nobody's ever heard in their life," Streetrunner remembered. "And like fire fuckin' going up on the stage, and all the pyrotechnics and all that shit. And like you look at the crowd, in the audience, and they're all like 'what the fuck is happening.' That shit was super dope."

From there, of course, it was a wrap. Lil Wayne went on to release the singles leading up to Tha Carter III, and his world-conquering run was no longer a matter of opinion. "Gossip" is his final warning, the last time he was going to say it. Hadn't he, Mr. Hip-Hop, been good to you? Hasn't he still?

Selena Gomez: Being a Famous Teen Was CREEPY! - The Hollywood Gossip

Recently, Selena Gomez made the cover of Time magazine and talked about what the word "strength" means to her.

Separately, she also shared a rare photo of herself with her boyfriend, The Weeknd.

But that's not all. Now, Selena is opening up about feeling "violated" as a teen starlet -- and telling the world about what it felt like to fall in love for the first time.

Selena Instagram Pic

Selena Gomez sat down with The Business of Fashion this week and talked about her experiences as a young performer.

For one thing, she doesn't know what it's like to not be an entertainer.

"I’ve been doing it since I was seven. To be honest, I don’t think I know anything different."

That's amazing, right?

She also talks about how her mom always looked out for her.

"She was very aware, for some reason, of what could happen to me."

That's a parent's first job, really.

A lot of young stars are prime targets for people who want to exploit their careers and overwork them.

Tragically, some young stars -- who might experience unusual levels of independence for their ages -- are targeted by sexual predators within the entertainment industry.

Selena Gomez GQ Pic

Selena's mom also didn't fall into the "Stage Mom" trap.

"She always said to me that I should have fun, and if it wasn’t fun or if I wasn’t learning something or I wasn’t growing as a person, she wanted to take me out of it."

Have any of you ever had to deal with stage moms?\

For a summer job that I had as a teenager, I once had to deal with a mother who wanted her preschool age daughter to perform on stage because, even though it is dangerous for children that young to be up on a stage and they don't really need the pressure of performing.

We're glad that Selena had a much better experience.

Being in this business, she says, became more difficult as she got older.

"I was actually more confident when I was younger than I am now. I think it changed when I started getting known for things that weren’t [related to] my work… When I was younger, it was all fun to me."

That makes sense. When she became a huge celebrity, Selena became the subject of gossip.

"When I did state fairs and 100 people would show up, I would be stoked. That was the best feeling in the world. But when I got older, I started to become exposed to the truth behind some stuff and that’s when it flipped a little bit."

It sounds like there was more than public perception at play with her disappointment as she got older, though.

Selena Gomez Instagram Photograph

"I realized, 'Oh this is actually really hard, and kind of slimy in certain areas,' and I didn’t realize that certain people wanted certain things from me. My confidence went through a lot with that."

If you think that that sounds creepy, you're right.

"I remember just feeling really violated when I was younger, even just being on the beach. I was maybe 15 or 16 and people were taking pictures — photographers. I don’t think anyone really knew who I was. But I felt very violated and I didn’t like it or understand it."

There's a difference between going "hey, that girl's gorgeous" and taking a bunch of creepy pictures of her while she's minding her own business.

Some of that exposure comes with being a celebrity.

But at 15, Selena shouldn't have had to deal with that.

"That felt very weird, because I was a young girl and they were grown men. I didn’t like that feeling."

Selena Gomez at 2016 Grammys

When she was 18, though, Selena experienced a turning point.

She was still starring on Wizards of Waverly Place (which was a charming show -- no iCarly, but miles ahead of Hannah Montana), and she felt like she needed to stretch her legs.

"I didn’t feel like it was about my art as much. I was on the fourth season of the show, and I felt like I was outgrowing it. I wanted something different and obviously, I fell in love for the first time."

Some people never fall in love, of course. Either they're aromantic or they just never meet the right people or get to form the right connections.

But while most people do fall in love multiple times, it's rare for anyone's first love to be as famous as Selena Gomez's romance with Justin Bieber.

We're really glad that she's moved on since those days.

And so, we're sure, is she.

Sharon Osbourne Defends Calling Kim Kardashian a "Ho" - The Hollywood Gossip

Last week, a feud seemed to erupt out of nowhere when Sharon Osbourne called Kim Kardashian a "ho" for reasons that still aren't entirely clear.

The remark was made in an interview with The Telegraph in response to a question about whether Kim is right to consider herself a feminist.

Sharon Osbourne Red Carpet Pic

"Kim says she's doing everything in the name of feminism, but that's not feminism!” Osbourne told the outlet.

"Those girls live off their bodies, half of L.A. has been through them and everything they do from the sex tape to the plastic see-through dresses and the gym wear is about sex, not female progress.”

Osbourne continued:

"God bless them. If Kim wants to show off her body, fine. But that's not feminism, that's being a ho. And there's nothing wrong with being a ho, but always remember what you are.”

Osbourne's comments are so loaded with irony that we'd tip our hat if she were making herself look dumb on purpose, but we're pretty sure that's not the case.

Kim Kardashian: Blonde in 2017

The idea of a feminist gatekeeper who gets to decide which women are worthy of the title seems rather ... anti-feminist.

But Kim didn't even bother to point that out when she clapped back at Sharon.

Instead, Ms. Kardashian-West merely pointed out that she never claimed she posts nude photos in the name of feminism:

"I think she said I said a quote about, 'I post nude photos in the name of feminism.' Never said that. So I think when people misquote you and then comment, it just sounds ridiculous,” Kim said last week.

"I post nude photos because I like how I look and I feel proud when I've lost all this baby weight and I post it because I feel like posting it and I feel powerful."

No one - including Kim Kardashian - is claiming that Kim Kardashian nudes are the 21st Century's answer to The Feminine Mystique.

Sharon Osbourne, Kim Kardashian Split

Basically, Osbourne built up a curvaceous straw man, gleefully tore it down, and rightfully got called out.

Naturally, she went into damage control mode and began frantically backpedaling during Monday's episode of her The View knockoff, The Talk:

“It’s so ridiculous how these things happen," Sharon said.

"I was doing this interview, and (the reporter) said to me ‘have you heard that Kim Kardashian has come out as a feminist’ … and of course I commented.”

Osbourne continued:

"She asked my opinion and I gave it. It wasn’t rude, it wasn’t … whatever (Kim) does, it’s showing her body. Which shows that she’s a strong grounded woman and she’s not ashamed of her body, she wants to show it, which is her business … people have been doing that since day one … it doesn’t make you a feminist."

Kim Kardashian: Naked Again

We're not sure we're following Sharon's argument here.

It's something along the lines of: "Someone told me Kim Kardashian said something she never said, so I responded by calling her a ho. What's the big deal?"

We can understand how Sharon would be so naive as to go on a misogynistic rant in response to unverified information.

It's not like the woman's been famous for decades and wound up involved her own share of messy tabloid dramas.

Seriously, though, we're beginning to understand why Sharon's defense of her own comments was so lame.

They're pretty impossible remarks to justify.

Workplace doctor: how to deal with malicious gossip - The National

I work for a large logistics company based in the Middle East and I am at a loss as to what to do about a relatively new member of my team who outwardly appears to be suitably respectful towards me but whom others have told me is the exact opposite when I am not there. It seems this behaviour is having an adverse effect on the rest of team but it is tricky because this disrespect is reported, rather than observed by me or any other manager. How should I approach this?

MB, RAK

“Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people,”  so said the late Eleanor Roosevelt.

As a manager it can be expected that some degree of discussion will go on informally behind your back and, as hard as it can be, if you paid attention to every rumour it can become very distracting and potentially take your attention and energy away from successfully leading your team towards the desired goals and targets.  However, if this behaviour is starting to have an adverse impact on the team it definitely needs to be addressed.

Within organisations there are both formal and informal communication channels and leaders need to be able to straddle aware of both of these. Formal communication happens through predetermined channels, it tends to be well documented and reliable and although the speed at which it travels is slower, there is evidence of what has happened. Informal communication (also known as "the grapevine") often happens at the water-cooler or during smoke and coffee breaks. The information generated from this level of communication flows freely but tends to be less reliable, with no evidence, or documentation relating to it. Because the informal information can be very fast and can potentially be very influential, it can be effective when employees discuss work related problems, saving time and costs.  On the negative side, it can also be the source of rumours and gossip. Gossip happens at every level of an organisation having mainly four functions – to inform, entertain, create intimacy and to influence. But negative gossip can have very destructive effects within an organisation. Therefore, it is crucial to endeavour to establish and develop open, honest and respectful communication at all levels within the organisation.

Gossip impedes trust and openness within a team, which according to Patrick Lencioni, is one of five dysfunctions within a team; absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability and being more focused on personal success rather than team success. Looking at these five points it is easy to see that negative gossip plays into each of these dysfunctions. On the other hand, high performing teams are characterised by team members that have solid and deep trust in each other and in the team's purpose and feel free to express feelings and ideas, knowing everybody is working towards the same goals. Communication is open and honest, with constructive criticism and well managed conflicts. Disagreement is viewed as a good thing and team members will diffuse tension and friction in a healthy way, ensuring that problems are solved and obstacles removed. No individual member is more important than the team.

So, where does this leave you dealing with reported gossip? Firstly, if you leave it to fester you may find that one bad apple spoils the bunch - spreading toxicity across both your team and the organisation as a whole. Secondly, this information has been given to you by others, therefore it would require you to have a certain level of trust in your sources. Lastly, there is usually an underlying reason for this type of disrespectful behaviour. Handling this may be a real test of your leadership and others may take note of how you manage the situation, so it is important that it is done both professionally and gracefully. You want to approach this with a positive attitude, separating your own emotions from the situation and trying to be as objective as you can. The key element here is communication - from creating a private and safe space for a productive conversation to take place to excellent listening skills that will encourage the person to voice any concerns that they may have. Model the behaviour you would like to see in this person, by being open and transparent - there may be a blind spot in your own leadership that would be useful for you to be aware of and this interaction with him/her could well be informative. Be careful with accusations but let the person know that disrespectful behaviour that has a negative impact on the team is not acceptable.

Doctor's Prescription:

As challenging as this may be, addressing the reported behaviour sooner rather than later is the way forward. Balancing your ability to be enquiring and supportive of the underlying reasons for this person’s behaviour with being firm and clear about expectations within your team is what you’re ideally aiming for.

Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott: Are They Over?! - The Hollywood Gossip

It looks like there might be trouble for Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott's relationship.

Sure, it's a rebound relationship so people don't really expect it to last, but Travis Scott getting spotted with a woman who was decidedly not Kylie Jenner had some fans wondering if they had split.

Either before Travis was seen with his lady companion ... or after.

Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott

So, Kylie Jenner seems to have a thing for no-name rappers, because she started dating Travis Scott just two months after she dated Tyga.

That really says "rebound," right?

Kylie started dating Tyga when she was 17 and stopped when she was 19.

She dated Tyga for, like, a tenth of her life.

That's not something that you get over completely in just two months.

Or even two years.

(Do 50-year-olds just "forget" a 5-year marriage? Because, proportionate to life experience, that's what we're talking about, here)

Anyway, spotting Travis out with a woman who isn't Kylie got a lot of people buzzing about a possible breakup.

This wouldn't be the first time that we've heard rumors of Travis Scott cheating on Kylie.

Kylie Jenner, Tongue Curl on Snapchat

Well, Wiz Khalifa had a birthday party, and Travis Scott was in attendance.

Actually, hold on, we have to address how tangled everything in the Kardashian family is with their various exes.

If you'll recall, Kylie's last boyfriend was Blac Chyna's baby daddy, and Blac Chyna dated and was engaged to Rob Kardashian and they had a child together.

Meanwhile, Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose had a child together, and Amber Rose is Kanye's ex, as if anyone could forget that after Wiz Khalifa's feud with Kanye West and how Amber Rose called out Kanye over dragging her son into their Twitter fight.

And Travis Scott is friends with Wiz Khalifa.

Anyway, Travis Scott went to the party alone (understandably, it might have been awkward if Kylie had come), but when he came out of the party, he was with a very attractive brunette.

Travis Scott Does His Thing

Now, we don't know who she is, and just because two people go out walking together doesn't mean that one of them is spending any time inside of the other.

But you would think that Travis Scott would avoid even the appearance of being seen with another woman, given the way that rumors operate.

Even if Kylie knows and is totally cool with him walking somewhere with a friend, he's not doing her any favors, you know?

However, it looks like Travis and Kylie are still on, because Kylie was in the audience for one of Travis Scott's shows over the weekend.

You know that she has to be in a good mood if she's willing to sit through one of his performances.

(Sorry, but Travis Scott's music isn't really our thing)

Kylie Jenner: 20th Birthday Lingerie

It might be worth noting that a Life of Kylie preview clip shows Kylie consulting a shaman about her relationship.

(You remember that Kylie Jenner went to Peru)

The shaman's response (and keep in mind that this episode was almost certainly filmed months ago) was ... interesting.

"It's actually very good, There is one person that is very interested. You can see he's already talking with you. Yes, he has good intentions. He's inside, looking at you."

We don't know anything about this shaman and we're not going to tell anyone what to believe. We also have no idea what Kylie herself might believe.

A lot of the times, celebs and realtiy stars attend spiritual things just for the cameras. They can't all be as spiritual as Paris Jackson.

Still, if things do come to a halt between Kylie and Travis, she won't have any problem finding her next rapper that nobody's heard of.

Musto Unfiltered: Piles Of Gossip! Gossip For Days! - NewNowNext

NewNowNext is very excited to be the new home for column of Michael Musto, a writer virtually synonymous with New York City nightlight and queer culture. Musto wrote the long running “La Dolce Musto” column in the Village Voice and his work has also appeared in The New York Times styles section, Paper, and on Out.com, and he regularly appeared as a recurring panelist on Logo’s movie showCocktails & Classics, as well as being one of the rotating cohosts onTheater Talk. His books including the seminal non fiction guide Downtown and the roman-a-clef Manhattan on the Rocks. His new column, “Musto Unfiltered,” which launches today, will appear Mondays.

“It’s been extremely gay and extremely long and extremely big, which is everything gays like.” That’s what RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 star Jaymes Mansfield told me about RuPaul’s DragCon at the Javits Center this weekend, and it was so true. The first ever New York City DragCon was sprawling with drag stars, makeup booths, old friends, baby queens, and lots of zhooshing and tucking.

Hawking Boy Butter lube in the back, NYC drag performer Chaka Khanvict told me she’d had a hallucination for an ad that said, “Season 37—featuring Chaka Khanvict.” “And you’ll still be younger than Charlie Hides,” I replied. (Relax. Charlie makes old jokes himself—and I’m the first to admit I’m older than Charlie.)

In another booth, Season 8 star Acid Betty greeted me with, “I thought you died! In 1972!” “At least I didn’t get kicked off Drag Race,” I cracked. “At least I got on,” she retorted. All this batty badinage made me feel extremely at home amongst the kiki kooks of the night—the people I belong with!

What was Betty’s most unusual interaction that day? She looked at the candy colored set around her—complete with oversized donuts—and deadpanned, “People trying to molest me through my wall.” Security!

But I did have an ego-enhancing moment when a fan gushed to me that he’d just bought a photo of me and RuPaul for $30. I’m glad he didn’t add, “They should have cropped you out and charged $40.” Anyway, Canadian lensman John Simone, who took that photo, was on a panel I moderated later that day at DragCon, also featuring author James St. James and goddess Amanda Lepore. The topic was the “Herstory of Downtown: Manhattan Nightlife Icons,” and one of the memorable moments came when James admitted he lost his virginity as a teen to a Judy Garland impersonator. (Yikes. I knew Judy liked ’em gay, but I didn’t know she liked ’em young.) In another big moment, Amanda differentiated between drag and trans by saying she wants to do everything as a woman, including shower. “And how does a woman shower?” I wondered, sincerely. “With a vagina,” she replied, as the crowd went wild. (But to be technical, it’s not absolutely necessary.)

He’s Just My Bill

I had another chance to shine for my brothers and sisters when other figures from the nightlife came together at the Cutting Room for an LGBT benefit for New York mayor Bill de Blasio. Naturally, I was enlisted to sing a version of “This Little Light of Mine” with lyrics about the mayor’s achievements. (“Bill’s reduced stop-and-frisk/And I’m gonna let it shine”). They didn’t boo! And there was so much more on that stage.

The night—hosted by Cynthia Nixon, Alan Cumming, and Taylor Schilling, with talent organized by Nora Burns—featured a mix of award winning actors and downtown personalities, all creating an edgily entertaining vaudeville show. Murray Hill, Claywoman, BETTY, Michael Urie, Mario Cantone, Rosie O’Donnell, Randy Jones, Denis O’Hare, Amber Martin, Kevin Aviance, and others, sang, emoted, and stumped for our anti-Trump mayor, who capped off the night with a speech filled with hope and inclusion. Addressing the entertainment that had preceded him, he said that it had come off half avant-garde and half high school show. (I took that latter description as a shoutout to yours truly. Yay! He noticed!)

But de Blasio declared that while he loves Mario Cantone, he disagreed with the comic’s remarks criticizing Caitlyn Jenner’s Republicanism. The mayor said Caitlyn has been brave and has educated us, and she has the right to her opinions. Well, I was uncomfortable with Mario saying, “Fuck her/him…I don’t give a fuck. I fuckin’ hate him.” But as for his comments that Caitlyn shouldn’t turn her back on Obama’s legacy, especially since what he accomplished for the T in LGBT helped enable her to come out, I’m totally with him. Yes, we have the right to our opinions too, and mine is that Caitlyn’s support of Trump is viler than the “Make America Great Again” hat she needs to finally throw out along with her disc of the Village People movie she was in (only so I can grab that marvelous mess out of the trash and watch it again).

Backstage, Denis O’Hare told me about the movie he wrote and stars in, The Parting Glass, which is based on the real story of one of O’Hare’s sisters dying in 2010, which led to O’Hare and other family members traveling cross country to clean out her apartment and come to grips with the loss. When he mentioned that Melissa Leo is in it, I told him I loved both he and Melissa in Novitiate, the upcoming 1962-set film in which they play Archbishop McCarthy and a sadistic Reverend Mother, at odds over the Vatican’s changing policies. And believe me, he reads her rosary beads. Meanwhile, Murray Hill told me he’s seen the Amazon pilot for Love You More, starring scene favorite Bridget Everett as a cabaret singer who’s a counselor to young adults with Down syndrome. “It’s dark,” said Murray, adding that that’s a good review. Also there, groundbreaking gay singer Ari Gold, who’s been battling a form of blood cancer, told me he’s gotten a bone donor—namely his brother, the Grammy winning Steven Gold. “The guy’s finally good for something, right?” I cracked. “No, we get along,” replied Ari, calmly.

Not everyone has gotten along over Paul Alexander’s musical play Trinkets, which is in an extended run at the Gene Frankel Theater. (I caught up with it, and it’s a lively real, sweet show put over by a game and talented cast.) Paul was the deadpan MC at the legendary Meat Packing District club Jackie 60 and went on to be in the techno trio the Ones and now to pen this show about trans sex workers in the MPD in the ’90s. In case you thought de Blasio vs. Cantone was the last battle over trans, this show has ignited a little controversy amongst some trans Facebook friends (who didn’t see the show, but had something to say about it). I happen to like all the people involved, despite their weird sense of punctuation, so I’m just passing along their little contretemps. One of the complaints was that “there were no black men in dresses” selling their bodies in that area, but Alexander disagrees, saying there were all kinds of people. Posted Tiana Reeves: “Honey typical gays stealing lives of trans women…and making it a trainwreck.” Said Ava D’Abo, who was concerned about the casting: “And nowhere was Paul never saw that queen where was he hiding under a cab maricone where were you so I can understand how your ass wrote a play because you my friend were never there.” Replied Paul: “If you were too drunk and or high to remember me being around in the ’90s you would do best to keep that to yourself. Write your own fucking story. You are saying that no black drag queens worked the MPD? Ever? Never? Really? Okay, write your own story.”

In a way less noble moment, Paul snarled, “And don’t refer to me out of my name maricona fake pussy bitch.” More sensibly, Paul laid out the casting thusly: “There are three trans women in the play, playing trans women. There are two drag roles, they are played by men in dresses, with padding. There is also a cross dresser character played by a man in a dress…I know the difference in drag and trans, and I am not using men to play trans women, although there’s no reason why they can’t, it’s acting, it’s pretend. Ava also said I wasn’t out there. True, I was never a hooker, but I know enough of them and their stories and a few of them have seen Trinkets and felt I did them justice in telling a story so many of them share….”

We need Judge Judy to step in here and pound a glittery gavel.

Beach Blanket Bingo

Robert Sandy Beach certainly has his own story. The longtime Philly-based performer says that he knew George Maharis—intimately. (Maharis is a good-looking Greek-American actor best known from the 1960s TV show Route 66). “Sandy” met George back in the day, when Maharis was in a production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, in which he played the sheriff. “He did have a big gun,” reports “Sandy.” I know. He posed naked for Playgirl in 1973.

Here’s some more nutty nostalgia: I just met a musician-producer-mixer who worked on Cyndi Lauper’s first album in the early ’80s, when Madonna had just started her ascent. At the time, he had never heard of Cyndi, but was told, “She’s a Madonna wannabe—but she can sing.” It’s all so amusing. Just passing it along.

Female Trouble is a new book by Chris Holmlund based on John Waters’ 1974 cult classic, in which Divine is facially scarred and doing a backflip on a trampoline. It’s the first title in the Queer Film Classic series, edited by Thomas Waugh and Matthew Hays, and it’s worth flipping for.

Let me serve you something up to the minute and just as titillating: Which cast member from that popular reality show that you all know is going to do a gang bang video with porn star Owen Hawk? I’m not telling—right now—since I’m hoping you’ll all gang up and demand it from me.

You’re a Queer One, Julie Jordan

As for more legit entertainment: The upcoming Carousel revival on Broadway will star Jesse Mueller (Beautiful, Waitress) and Joshua Henry (Shuffle Along). I’m counting on a controversy over the fact that they’ve cast a black man to play an abusive carousel barker. And I won’t be fully behind the uproar. Yes, I’m against furthering stereotypes, but I feel the landscape is changing--Denee Benton did well as the female lead in Natasha, Pierre, to name just one example—so people of color should be able to play all sorts of things, including flawed characters. (August Wilson certainly wrote some.) Of course if Henry ever leaves the show and is replaced by a white man, you can expect a whole other furor of the type that happened when Natasha producers were going to replace Okieriete “Oak” Onaodowan with Mandy Patinkin, leading to an avalanche of twitter twits calling it racist. (It wasn’t—it was just desperate.) No problem—I’ll be there to remind them, “But the role is an abuser, remember?” And can I tell you that when Audra McDonald played Carrie Pipperidge in the 1994 Carousel revival, one critic was up in arms that a black person was prancing around that stage, even in a lovely role? I give up. I’m dead—and not in a good way. I’m off to take a shower with a penis. It’s extremely gay and extremely long….
