Better Than Gossip - New York Times

To the Editor:

Julie Klam contends in “To Stay Sane, Read Celebrity Gossip” (Op-Ed, Aug. 12) that “when the real news is so horrendous, you need celebrity news more than ever.” Ugh.

For a far more invigorating and nourishing diversion, why not pick up a good book, or turn on some stirring music, or even get outside and take a walk in the park? When Oscar Wilde wrote, “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars,” he wasn’t referring to Kim Kardashian and Charlie Sheen.
