Brighton DONE DEAL

22:02: Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the club-record transfer of Colombian international winger Jose Izquierdo from Club Brugge for an undisclosed fee - subject to international clearance - and he has signed a contract until June 2021.

The club completed the final part of the transfer earlier today, and subject to receiving the necessary clearance in time, he will make his debut in Tuesday night's Carabao Cup tie against Barnet at the Amex.

Albion agreed terms with Brugge and Izquierdo more than a week ago, but had to apply for work permit clearance in order to secure a UK work visa and register the transfer, which breaks the club's record fee paid for the third time this summer.

Manager Chris Hughton said, "This has been a very complex deal, but I am absolutely delighted we are finally in a position to confirm it is completed. I would like to thank all those involved for their hard work and am delighted Jose is now able to begin work.”

Celtic could sell Sviatchenko

21:43: FC Copenhagen want to sign Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko.

Reports in Denmark this morning claimed Copenhagen are plotting a permanent move for the centre-back.

And Express Sport understands that deal could be worth up to £3m.

Copenhagen are in need of a new centre-back following Erik Johansson’s knee injury that will rule him out for up to nine months.

Costa wants to play in Brazil

20:58: Diego Costa wants to play in his native Brazil before retiring from football.

Costa has back in his hometown of Legarto and has refused to return to Chelsea training.

The striker, 28, wants to join Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are willing to sell - but a transfer is proving difficult.

Costa attended a local Brazilian league game at the Arena Batista this weekend.

And the Spain international expressed his desire to one day play in his native Brazil again.

“I’ve had the pleasure to mastering Europe and am recognised throughout the world,” Costa told Globoesporte.

“I hope to continue like this because I still have a few years ahead to play.

“Before finishing my career I feel like playing some years here in Brazil to be able to enjoy the country a little more and experience it.

“Now it’s all about working, scoring goals to being called up for the World Cup in Russia.”

West Brom want Wimmer

20:49: West Brom are prepared to bid £15million for Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer - but Tony Pulis has been given time to mull the deal over.

Tottenham are happy to sell Wimmer following his disappointing stint at the north London club.

They have signed Davinson Sanchez from Ajax and now need to offload one of their current crop.

It looks like the Austrian will be sold and West Brom are keen to do business.

But Pulis will not rush into a decision.

That is according to Sky Sports, who claim the former Stoke boss has a couple of days to decide what to do.

Wimmer, 24, was linked with a move to Stoke this summer but they signed Kurt Zouma on loan from Chelsea.

Barca fan wears Coutinho shirt

20:16: A Barcelona fan clearly believes his side will sign Philippe Coutinho, having got ‘Coutinho 11’ printed on the back of his shirt.

Barcelona want to sign Coutinho but Liverpool are determined not to sell.

The No 11 shirt was vacated by Neymar, who completed his £200m move to PSG earlier this summer.

And Mundo Deportivo managed to snap a fan in a new Barca away shirt with Coutinho’s name on the back before the clash with Real Betis at the Nou Camp this evening.

Newcastle snubbed over Batshuayi

19:49: Newcastle want to sign Michy Batshuayi, but Chelsea are refusing to sell.

Batshuayi endured a mixed first season at Chelsea last term, spending much of his time on the bench behind Diego Costa.

Costa is set to be offloaded but the Blues have brought in Alvaro Morata as his replacement, rather than promoting Batshuayi.

However, the Belgian appears to have proven himself at Stamford Bridge.

The Mail on Sunday claim Chelsea boss Antonio Conte doesn’t want to lose the striker.

Newcastle are eyeing a loan bid for the 23-year-old but may have to look at other options.

Conte wants Chelsea transfers

19:07: Antonio Conte has confirmed he is still seeking to sign more players in the transfer window.

Conte’s Chelsea beat Tottenham 2-1 at Wembley today.

New signings Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko both started for the Blues.

And Conte says more deals should be heading to Stamford Bridge.

“I think the club is trying to do its best in the transfer market, to try to improve our team, to try to improve our spot,” he said.

Man City deny Messi move

17:55: Manchester City have denied they are set to launch a world-record bid for Lionel Messi (14:42).

French broadcaster Canal Plus today claimed City were plotting a £275million bid for the Barcelona superstar.

Messi is yet to sign a new contract at Barca and City were said to be eyeing up his release clause.

But the Etihad Stadium club are not preparing a late bid to sign Messi in this transfer window.

Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim club officials have rubbished the reports from French broadcasters.

Gerrard wants Van Dijk

17:30: Steven Gerrard has urged Liverpool to sign Virgil van Dijk.

“Yes (he is a necessity),” Gerrard said of Van Dijk on BT Sport.

“For me if you want to compete in the league and in the Champions League.

“It’s been well documented that we need two or three signings in.”

Jose talks transfers

17:15: Manchester United won’t be selling anymore players this summer, says Jose Mourinho.

When asked if anymore could be shipped out the Portuguese boss insisted nobody will be leaving.

“The players that I have in the squad nobody is in doubt. We are very very objective with them,” he said.

“We are very face to face so the players are not in this risk of maybe my manager in the last day of the market is going to say that he doesn't want me. No. Everybody here knows the situation well.

“Even Tim Fosu Mensah (who was loaned out to Crystal Palace for the season before the campaign kicked off), we accept to do it before the first match of the season. So we are in a stable situation.”

Costa speaks out AGAIN

16:56: Diego Costa has once again hit out at Chelsea over his current situation.

Antonio Conte texted Costa to tell him he wasn’t wanted at Stamford Bridge and would be sold.

Costa, speaking in Brazil, MC News: “If something makes me sad about this situation, it’s [the fans’] affection as they’d always supported me, even during the delicate moments.

“If I’d been in the team for three years, it was for them and the dressing room, which was very much united. It was a great experience.

“Conte’s text? It was a moment of madness. It can happen, but I thought it was disrespectful.

“I always asked to speak face to face with the Coach and the board. I never sent [them] text messages, so it shows what kind of person he is.

“I already have in mind where I want to play and I’ve made it very clear. [Spain’s] a country with which I identify a lot due to the climate and the people.

“I fell in love with Madrid. We have to wait for the right moment.”

Arsenal agreement

16:10: Arsenal youngster Kelechi Nwakali is set to join VVV Venlo.

Dutch side Venlo will take the Nigerian on loan as soon as his paperwork is sorted out.

“We will have a young player from Borussia Dortmund, a talent from Real Madrid (Mink Peeters) and one from Arsenal (Nwakali), which gives us more opportunities,” said VVV manager Maurice Steijn.

Coutinho update

15:41: Guillem Balague claims Liverpool have until 7pm to respond to Barcelona’s latest offer for Philippe Coutinho.

"I think Liverpool have got no intention of answering that email from Barcelona, which in theory means that's the end of that, the end of the story of Coutinho moving to Barcelona,” Balague said on Sky Sports.

“You never know in football of course, but Barcelona are true to their word and they will withdraw the offer at 7pm tonight.  "Liverpool have no intention of selling so Barcelona will have to look somewhere else for the reinforcements to bridge the gap of Real Madrid, who look so strong this season.

"They have known for a while that Liverpool do not want to negotiate; they have not sat down at the negotiating table all throughout the summer.

“Barcelona have had to start looking somewhere else and [Jean Michel] Seri of Nice is somebody they want to put their money on, and of course [Ousmane] Dembele.

“If they go for both of those, they won't have the money for anyone else anyway."

Ibrahimovic update

15:11: Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of re-signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ibrahimovic is continuing his rehab following a knee injury in April.

He is without a club and AC Milan want to sign him.

But the Mail on Sunday claim the striker remains a target of United, who will supposedly offer him a new deal to start up in January.

Lampard expects Chelsea arrivals

15:00: Frank Lampard expects Antonio Conte and Chelsea to be busy before the transfer window shuts.

“We are all reacting to the negative stories that are around Chelsea and the manager at the moment, but they may well sign two or three top class players in the next few weeks, fly out of the blocks and he might end up getting a five year contract at the end of this season,” Lampard told Yahoo Sport.

“He has got a two-year contract with the [club] and we are all second guessing what might be happening behind the scenes at the club.

Lionel Messi to Man City update

14:42: More details are emerging of Manchester City’s interest in Lionel Messi (14:12).

French TV station Canal Plus claim City owner Khaldoon Al Mubarak began work on a deal on Friday.

City would have to pay a staggering £275million to sign Messi.

Barcelona are not interested in selling their superstar but would be powerless to block a move if City matched the release clause.

The Nou Camp club have already lost Neymar to PSG.

Man City want Lionel Messi

14:12: Manchester City are preparing to trigger Lionel Messi’s release clause, according to reports in France.

Messi has a £275m (€300m) release clause and City are keen to sign the Barcelona star.

Yahoo Sports France claim Pep Guardiola will ‘do everything’ he can to sign his former player.

Barca would be powerless to prevent the deal if City matched Messi’s clause.

Spalletti talks Man Utd target Perisic

13:54: Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti is confident they will keep hold of Ivan Perisic amid interest from Manchester United - although admits the winger did have concerns about committing his future to the club.

Spalletti says: “Since the start, the club spoke with Ivan, as did I, he came and told us some things, because you need specific characteristics to stay here. We must all be ready to listen to how everyone else sees things.

“Perisic is a great player, in the vein of Giacinto Facchetti, Javier Zanetti and Marco Materazzi, a leader who gives something more than an individual usually does. After this initial discussion, I never had any more signals of a departure, in training or outside of it.

“Ivan is someone who has his own training schedule after the session is finished, working in the gym, and is one of the most professional players I've met. He does something that only those who have a real sentiment for the club will do, because he never holds back and works so hard for the team.

“Perisic is not just in the Inter project, he is one of those we need to follow and who will set the path we are moving towards.”

Nice boss stunned

13:03: Nice manager Lucien Favre says he “cannot imagine life without Jean Seri” as Barcelona plot a deal for the midfielder.

Barcelona will move for Seri if they can’t sign Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

His £36.7m release clause is a snip compared to the £130m bid Barca are expected to make for Coutinho.

Asked about Barca’s interest in Seri, Favre said: “Are you serious?

“I cannot imagine life without Seri. But as long as the market is not closed, like many other clubs, we are in uncertainty.

“He has been professional in all his games. I cannot tell you anything more, I do not know anything at all."

Benzema to sign Real Madrid contract

12:51: Karim Benzema will sign a new Real Madrid contract before the end of the month.

Arsenal have been linked to Benzema in recent days as they seek another new striker before the end of the transfer window.

But Real are determined to keep their man.

Le Journal du Dimanche claim the France international will pen a new deal which will run until 2021.

Benzema’s current contract expires in the summer of 2019.

Chelsea consider Krychowiak loan

12:44: Chelsea are keeping tabs on Paris St-Germain midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak.

The Sun claim a loan deal for the Poland international is being considered if they are unable to land Leicester star Danny Drinkwater.

Krychowiak is free to leave PSG as the club after falling down the pecking order following Neymar’s arrival from Barcelona.

Wood arrives for Burnley medical

12:27: Chris Wood has arrived for his medical at Burnley.

The Leeds United striker yesterday omitted himself from the squad that beat Sunderland 2-0.

Wood will complete a £15million switch to the Clarets should he pass the medical.

Barca's second option

12:24: Barcelona will not mess around if they cannot sign Philippe Coutinho.

Spanish papers today claim Barca are considering their options with the Brazilian.

Express Sport understands a £130m bid for Coutinho is in the pipeline.

But if that offer is rejected a move to Nice’s Jean Michel Seri is Barca’s second option.

And Marca claim a move for Seri should be easy, with the player having a €40m (£36.7m) release clause.

Barca will even pay the whole figure to Nice in one lump sum in order to get the deal done quickly.

Hartson praises Man Utd

12:04: John Hartson says Manchester United have got their transfer deals spot on this summer.

"The additions that they've been have been very good. Lukaku is a centre-forward who will get you goals.

"He's got over 20 goals in his past three seasons, is a player that Mourinho knows very well from their time together at Chelsea.

"Matic is magnificent. What he does is sit and be disciplined in front of the back four and that will allow Pogba to go and play and express himself.”

Coutinho's "head at Barca"

11.40: Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho already has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, according to pundit Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Hasselbaink believes Liverpool must take as much money as they can if the Brazilian does not want to stay at the club.

“What is his heart set on doing? Staying at Liverpool or going to Barcelona?" he said on Sky Sports.

“If he says he wants to go to Barcelona, take as much money as you can because he will be a different Coutinho and you need the right Coutinho at Liverpool.”

Perisic offer on table

11:18: Manchester United have not given up on their pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

The Daily Mirror claim the Red Devils still have an offer of £39million on the table.

Inter still value the Croatia international at around £48m.

Chelsea want Spurs ace

10:35: Chelsea are considering a bid for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, according to the Times.

Chelsea want to improve their defence before the transfer window shuts.

The Blues are supposedly targeting Alderweireld as he is unhappy with his financial situation at Spurs.
